Neuro-nutrition

The brain is an immensely powerful and complex organ which is constantly firing and receiving messages which enable us to think, move and function.  The brain and nervous system rely on healthy transmission and reception of neurochemicals; allowing us to experience good mood, memory, concentration, relaxation, meditation and deep sleep.  The brain also relies on healthy arteries and a strong heart to pump oxygen and nutrients up and into the brain.  Without proper nutrition, which includes hydration, the brain suffers dearly.

Neuro-nutrition is the science of how nutrition impacts the brain.  Not only does the brain rely on a vast array of nutrients for functioning, we also need to steer clear of neurotoxins which impair the brain.  Common neurotoxins found in food include heavy metals, aspartame, monosodium glutamate (MSG),  artificial colors, and even gluten.  These have all been linked to brain problems ranging from migraines, to mood disorders, learning disorders, and even more serious and degenerative brain diseases like Alzheimer's.  Foods and drinks that dehydrate the body- such as high sodium foods, caffeinated drinks and alcohol can also contribute to brain problems.

However, you can strengthen your neurological health and protect your brain with nutrition.  For instance, did you know that blueberries, green tea, fresh mint, fish, and egg yolks all have neuro-protective qualities!?  So theoretically, eating scrambled eggs with salmon, with a side of blueberries, and green-mint tea, for breakfast is a powerhouse breakfast- suited for any student or employee looking to perform their best!

If you are suffering with brain imbalances manifesting as poor memory, depression, anxiety, insomnia, and ADHD, you need not feel hopeless.  Nutrition is proven to help alleviate brain problems and support better brain function, and our Registered Dietitian can help.  We are in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield and Medicare.  Please call or email us to verify your nutrition benefits and get started on a personal nutrition program!
